Excellent hollow pair of Miniature Hooded Merganser duck decoys by famous Illinois River decoy carver Jim Slack. They are small 10 1/2” detailed carvings with puffy crests on their heads. They are hollow carved just like his hunting grade decoy and they are even rigged and weighted. They are in excellent original paint with thick brush strokes creating lots of texture and a beautiful patina. Slack is a contemporary carver and specializes in birds in the Illinois River carving style and he does not make many Mergansers. His decoys are highly sought after by collectors and each decoy is unique. These are classic working birds in excellent condition. Jim doesn’t carve many Miniatures.
